I switched from a Sunday last year to a Saturday this year to avoid a clash with a local cycle group. I think that was a major factor and it hit our numbers a bit, what with Saturday jobs, sports club commitments and the like.
My initial estimate of doubling the size of the ride was scrapped a few months back and the aim became to raise more money than last year (this being possible with fewer riders as the entry fee had gone up). We managed to attract 138 riders on 3rd September, down from 170 the year before but crucially the money raised went up from last year’s £1800 to £2250.
Your support has enabled me to come up with a new angle to promote future rides, I call it the “100% event“. Because you cover the organisational and insurance costs and the army administer the fund while being paid by the army that means that 100% of the event day proceeds go exactly where the riders would hope. I used the phrase a few times on Saturday and it seemed to be a hit so expect to see it used in our promotional work next year.
I really do hope you will continue to support our efforts, the ride has a fabulous reputation and you should see two rounds of local paper reports soon. The first should be next week, ride report and pictures. The second will be in a month or so for the cheque presentation. The Injured Soldier’s Fund will at some point be folded into a slightly larger charity called the Felix Fund, which will incorporate all bomb disposal regiments.

Hayley Ford a solicitor in our Wills and Probate department, recently donated 10 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust.
The Trust provides real hair wigs to children who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment or other illnesses.

Adams Harrison are pleased to announce that we have retained our Legal Excellence Quality Mark (Lexcel). This is developed specifically for the legal profession. It is an optional, recognized accreditation scheme for law firms and in-house legal departments which gives assurance that a practice meets high client care and business management standards.
To gain and retain the Lexcel accreditation a practice must undergo a rigorous initial then annual application and assessment process. This includes conducting background checks and an on-site visit from an independent trained Lexcel Assessor.
Adams Harrison has successfully retained this quality mark since 1999.
Aadams harrison have also retained Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) accreditation for the fifth year in a row, having achieved the qualification in July 2011.
Much of the employment law with have in this country comes from the EU, including:- discrimination rights, collective consultation obligations, transfer of undertakings regulations, family leave, working time regulations and duties to agency workers.
Whilst it would now be possible for the UK government to repeal this it is unlikely to do so and in fact EU law will probably continue to significantly influence employment law in this country.
There are various reasons for this:
It is much more likely that the government will gradually modify EU derived employment law to make it more applicable to UK employers and employees than repeal it altogether. As leaving the EU is a two year process nothing will happen quickly.
Once we have left the EU the European Courts of Justice (ECJ) will no longer have jurisdiction over UK courts and decisions made by the ECJ will not be binding on courts in this country. The decisions however already made by UK courts, taking into account EU law and ECJ decisions will remain binding unless it can be shown that the facts in any particular case are materially different. It is likely, however that UK courts will continue to at least consider ECJ decisions where relevant to cases being determined here.
So, in summary nothing drastic is going to happen to employment law as a result of Brexit and certainly not in the short term.

We were sponsors of the first Essex Colour Dash last year, and are very pleased to be able to sponsor the event once again.
The hospice offers care and support to life threatened children and their families.
The Colour Dash will take place this year on Sunday 4th September, and will be held once again in the grounds of Audley End Estate.
Adams Harrison were sponsors of the Sawston Fun Run once again this year, over 1600 people took part and the village of Sawston all turned out to offer support and drop money into the buckets of those collecting on the way round the 5 mile course.
This year the beneficiaries of the money collected by the entrance fees and collections are :-
The main beneficiary is the Teenage Cancer Trust to support their work at Addenbrookes.
In addition many other groups will benefit, Cambridge Cancer Help Centre; Stapleford Primary School; Centre 33; Bellbird Primary School; Ladybird Playgroup; Whittlesford Out-of-school club; Granta School; Sawston Village College; Max’s Mission; Sawston ATC and Sawston Boys and Girls Brigade.
